Welcome to Mrs. McCabe's Elementary School Counselor Blog

Hi everybody! This blog is dedicated to kids, parents, teachers, and community members. I will be using this blog to showcase what we are doing to promote good character at school, to provide information and support tools for parents and students, and to keep our community informed about the latest events and activities going on at school when it comes to the guidance department. Enjoy!

Steps to Respect

Many students face bullying problems at school.  Research shows that bullying can be reduced greatly, but only when the whole school (students, staff, and parents) tackle the problem together.  Steps to Respect a new guidance curriculum that I will be incorporating into guidance classes will help to create a safe, caring, respectful learning environment.

Students will learn many skills to help them build friendships and deal with bullying.  Let's work together to create and maintain a safe and positive school environment!

Guidance Classes Have Started!

Guidance classes have officially started for the 2013-2014 school year!  I want to let everyone know that the next two weeks we will be getting to know each other and making connections in guidance classes!  Kids need to feel included and build relationships with each other in order to learn at their maximum potential!  We will also be reviewing Cadet Pride Expectations and the I-Care Rules.

I have also included the PBIS website http://www.pbis.org/ for additional information for parents and teachers about positive behavior at school and home.

Random Acts of Kindness

Students will complete a 14 day Secret Service Challenge!  Their mission will be to secretly serve others.  For the next 14 days they will be required to perform random acts of kindness, but they must do it without the recipients knowing they are being served ahead of time.  They will have to pick their targets and decide on a kind deed or act to perform for them.  They will follow out that act secretly and try not to blow their cover!
It's time to celebrate Caring!  The students grades K-5 will be challenged to spread caring throughout our world in the next two months.  The students in kindergarten will travel to Fuzzyland to watch I-Care cat our hero triumph over the "Little Witch" and her bag of cold pricklies.  The students will help I-Care Cat defeat the witch with "Warm Fuzzies!"
